PHOENIX — Giants manager Bruce Bochy announced Wednesday that right-hander Dereck Rodríguez would start Thursday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Rodríguez was in the clubhouse prior to the team’s 9-5 loss to the Oakland Athletics, but he wasn’t yet a member of the active roster.
The club made the decision official on Thursday, promoting Rodríguez from Triple-A Sacramento. To clear a roster spot, reliever Williams Jerez was optioned to Triple-A. San Francisco also announced Thursday that reliever Fernando Abad’s contract has been selected and Triple-A right-hander Kyle Barraclough has been designated for assignment.
To make room for Abad on the 25-man roster, catcher Aramis Garcia was optioned to Triple-A.
