SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The North Side of Chicago became one massive party when the Cubs won the World Series.
George Kontos admits it. He was the buzz kill.
He’d invite a parade of guests to watch the playoff games from his new condo in the West Loop – a gathering of old high school teammates, college friends from his days at Northwestern University, his brother’s family – and every time the Cubs would score a run or make a defensive play, everyone would jump off the furniture.
Except Kontos. He’d stay in his seat.
“They’d get mad at me,” said Kontos, “because I wasn’t able to root for them.
