SAN FRANCISCO – The north side of Chicago exploded and the baseball world gushed with emotion when the Cubs finally won the World Series last October. But the reaction was much different for Giants players and coaches who could stomach watching to the end.
The Giants understood this: if not for their leaky bullpen in Game 4 of their NL Division Series, the Cubs’ World Series drought probably (definitely?) would have continued.
Nobody understood it better than Giants coach and former Cubs shortstop Shawon Dunston.
What if the Giants had held onto that three-run lead in the ninth inning, and gotten to send Johnny Cueto plus a reliever named Madison Bumgarner against the Cubs in a decisive Game 5?
