SAN FRANCISCO — As the Giants inch closer to announcing their final roster, there’s a growing air of caution surrounding closer Mark Melancon.
Melancon, working his way back from forearm surgery, doesn’t feel quite right and could start the season on the disabled list. He last pitched on Friday, when he was hit hard.
“We’re hoping he’s all good to go on (Opening Day), but we don’t know if that’s going to be the case,” Manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday before the Giants faced the A’s at AT&T Park.
Melancon, who signed a four-year, $62 million deal before last season, appeared in just 30.
