Giants’ plan to replace injured Evan Longoria shaped by team’s upcoming schedule

DENVER — The Giants placed Evan Longoria on the 10-day injured list Monday with a plantar fascia strain in his left foot and have already cycled through three different players in his roster spot.

Longoria was initially replaced by reliever Ray Black, who was optioned after a 19-2 win over the Rockies to clear space for starting pitcher Dereck Rodríguez. After Rodríguez earned a victory with five innings of one-run ball in Game 2 of a Monday doubleheader, he was optioned to the minors so the Giants could recall left-hander Andrew Suárez from Triple-A.

“We’ve got two more games (at Coors Field) and you’re always a little concerned about running through your (bullpen),” manager Bruce Bochy said.
