Joe Panik's sophomore campaign won't end as well as his first year. The second baseman was placed on the 60-day DL Wednesday, ending his season.
A back injury derailed an All-Star season for the former first-round pick.
Prospect Mac Williamson was called up along with catcher Trevor Brown. 24-year-old Cuban outfield prospect Daniel Carbonell was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

On Monday, Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that Panik had an MRI and indictated that the second baseman would be done for the year.
