PITTSBURGH — It was mildly ironic when Giants third baseman Matt Duffy sat out Monday night's game with a sore Achilles tendon. A day after he inherited the longest consecutive games played streak in the majors, Duffy passed the title along to someone else.
After the Giants' 1-0 loss, though, coincidence turned into concern. An MRI exam showed a strained tendon, and the Giants must find a way to replace their gritty third baseman after placing him on the 15-day disabled list.Although top infield prospect Christian Arroyo is playing nearby in the Double-A Eastern League, the Giants weren't discussing such a bold move.
