In one of those moments that Hunter Pence called “the transitions of life,” he and Buster Posey, two icons of the Giants’ championship era, probably played together for the final time.
Posey is headed for hip surgery as Pence winds down his five-plus years in San Francisco.
“It’s definitely been an honor and a privilege to be his teammate,” Pence said. “He’ll still be around. I’m pretty sure the rest of our lives we’ll still be in touch, whether we’re playing on a baseball field or not. We have shared a lot of incredible memories.”
One of them occurred in Saturday’s 5-3 win over the Rangers when Pence hit a pinch home run against former teammate Matt Moore in the seventh inning, his second homer of the season.
