Infielder Kelby Tomlinson, whose everyman appearance and ocassional knack for clutch hitting made him a fan favorite, was one of five players the Giants removed from their 40-man roster Monday, and one of four who will be free agents.

Tomlinson and fellow second baseman Miguel Gomez cleared waivers and were outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento. They automatically become minor-league free agents, due to their service time, five days after the World Series.
