SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Barring a cascade of injuries, Clayton Blackburn wasn’t a candidate to make the Giants’ opening-day roster.
But his strong spring provided further encouragement that he’ll be ready whenever the Giants have a need for innings this season.
Blackburn pitched effectively for four innings on a lively and warm Sunday afternoon against a Colorado Rockies lineup full of regulars. He even rapped an RBI double off Rockies left-hander Jorge De La Rosa in the Giants’ 10-4 exhibition win at Talking Stick.
It made a usually difficult conversation so very easy for Giants manager Bruce Bochy, who told Blackburn that he’d be reporting to minor league camp to get ready for his season.
