SAN DIEGO – The Giants will use flyswatters as they try to finally take a series from the rebuilding Padres.
Their No.2 batter hasn’t hit a home run all season. Neither has their No.3 batter. It is not a small sample, either. Kelby Tomlinson and Gorkys Hernandez have 468 plate appearances between them.
Oh yeah. And not only is Pablo Sandoval in the lineup despite his .105 average as a right-handed batter, but he’s starting at first base – a position he hasn’t played since the day in 2012 when he tore his hamstring while doing the splits on a stretch at the bag.
