Giants notes: Relief pitchers try to stay sharp with side work and bullpen sessions while starters carry the load

SAN FRANCISCO _ The last time the Giants played at home, manager Bruce Bochy expressed concern over the state of the bullpen following a 13-inning win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Seven games and seven wins later, Bochy has the problem every manager would love to have _ a bullpen that is doing its best to find ways to stay sharp without having to pitch in an actual game.

“It’s important they do some light throwing, some light bullpens, make sure they get their work in,” Bochy said Friday night before the Giants faced the Chicago Cubs.
