SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – By now, Giants manager Bruce Bochy and his staff should know Matt Cain better than some of their blood relatives.
Cain is entering his 13th season with the Giants. He is the longest tenured player on the club by a significant margin. He has spent parts of four presidential administrations with the same pitching coach.
Yet Cain continues to be the most confounding player to evaluate in the Sonoran Desert.
He threw a 91 mph fastball and a swing-and-miss slider Friday night. He showed signs he could maintain his stuff, too, and go through a big league lineup multiple times.
