Giants notes: Mac Williamson's appetite for destruction clears a path to the majors for Grant Green, Chris Denorfia reports to Triple-A, etc.

OAKLAND – Grant Green was sitting in the dugout at Triple-A Sacramento the Sunday before last when Mac Williamson lost his grip on the bat.

“He helicoptered it,” Green said. “There were eight people around me, and I was the lucky one who couldn’t get out of the way.”

Green took four stitches in his knee. He got them out on Wednesday, and was all set to return to the field. He reported to the Giants clubhouse, and not the River Cats.

He’s got Williamson to thank for that, oddly enough.

Williamson collided with Ramiro Peña in Wednesday night’s loss at the Coliseum, the second baseman sustained an ankle sprain that will keep him out for at least five days, and for the second time in 48 hours, the club had to purchase the contract of a backup infielder from the minors.
