Giants notes: Joe Panik placed on concussion DL, Ruben Tejada joins roster, Chris Heston cashes in, plus updates on Tomlinson/Romo/Duffy

OAKLAND – The Giants spent two months charging to the front of the NL West. Now they are limping to the All-Star break. And the limp is becoming more pronounced by the day.

The Giants officially placed second baseman Joe Panik on the 7-day disabled list with what Manager Bruce Bochy termed a “mild concussion.”

The club purchased the contract of former Mets and Cardinals infielder Ruben Tejada, who is in Wednesday’s lineup at third base as the Bay Bridge series shifts to the Coliseum for the final two games.

Panik joins third baseman Matt Duffy, outfielder Hunter Pence, infielder Kelby Tomlinson, infielder Ehire Adrianza, right-hander Matt Cain and right-hander Sergio Romo on the disabled list.
