Giants notes: Joe Panik heads to concussion DL, Brandon Belt still foggy as well

MIAMI – Two days after Joe Panik took a shot to the helmet, the Giants were preparing to place the Gold Glove second baseman on the 7-day concussion list.

Panik had some lingering lightheadedness that got worse on Tuesday, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

The club will recall utilityman Orlando Calixte, who had been their designated 26th man for Sunday’s doubleheader at Nationals Park and hadn’t strayed too far away from the team.

It’s the second consecutive year that Panik will be on the concussion list. He missed a month last season after he was struck on the helmet by a fastball from former Rays left-hander (and current teammate) Matt Moore.
