Giants notes: Hunter Pence almost certainly out till August after setback, etc.

BOSTON – Another day without Hunter Pence on a baseball field. Another day of consternation for nervous Giants fans.

And another day of increasingly hollow reassurances from Giants manager Bruce Bochy.

Pence still isn’t ready to resume his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento, four days after he aggravated his right hamstring injury in his first game with the River Cats at New Orleans.

“Again, cautionary,” Bochy said on Wednesday while telling reporters that Pence wouldn’t suit up for the River Cats. “He may play tomorrow.”

The Giants originally targeted the July 25 homestand opener for Pence’s return.
