SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants have begun their active recruitment of Shohei Otani.
GM Bobby Evans and assistant GM Jeremy Shelley traveled to Japan to scout the 23-year-old two-way star, who is widely viewed as the most talented player to emerge from the professional ranks there since Ichiro Suzuki.
Otani is expected to sign with a major league team this winter.
“They’re talking a look at him and doing their work,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “There’s been a lot of attention on him. Part of the scouting process that clubs go through is checking out players.
