Giants notes: Bumgarner takes the mound as Giants strive to stay alive vs. Kershaw

SAN FRANCISCO – Buster Posey is the Giants’ first baseman for the remainder of the season — unless Madison Bumgarner is pitching.

Posey has caught every one of Bumgarner’s starts this season and they’ll form the battery Tuesday night as the Giants hope to sidestep Clayton Kershaw and bottle up the Dodgers’ NL West-clinching celebration for another day.

The Giants have two players capable of playing first base other than Posey: Kevin Frandsen and Nick Noonan. Frandsen gets the start. So does left fielder Mac Williamson, who had to make his major league debut against the Padres’ Craig Kimbrel.
