SAN FRANCISCO _ Brandon Belt gratefully accepted his place on the National League All-Star team Friday, having won a fan balloting over Pittsburgh’s Starling Marte with 10.4 million votes.
Belt and Marte were included in an on-line ballot for a spot on the team along with Arizona’s Jake Lamb, Colorado’s Trevor Story and Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun.
After dining with his family in a Lafayette eatery in the afternoon _ Belt admitted to some stomach rumblings after having a burger and some deviled eggs _ the Giants first baseman got the word through social media.
“We got a bunch of text messages from family and friends saying congratulations,” Belt said.
