SAN FRANCISCO–The Giants were rained out Friday, but adverse weather conditions have never stopped Jeff Samardzija from working out.
The Valparaiso, Indiana native is recovering from a strained pectoral muscle and tossed a 30-pitch bullpen indoors at AT&T Park while precipitation drenched the playing surface outside.
“We did it Midwest Indiana style,” Samardzija said.
The Giants shut Samardzija down for a week at the end of spring training after an MRI revealed inflammation in his pectoral muscle, but he’s made steady progress and appears likely to rejoin the rotation within the next two weeks.
Samardzija will pitch in Arizona at extended spring training Monday after teammate Will Smith makes his first appearance in a live game since undergoing Tommy John surgery last March.
