SAN DIEGO–The oldest player on the oldest team in baseball celebrates his birthday Friday.
Giants left fielder Hunter Pence is now 35 years old, and a night after driving in two runs with a two-out RBI single, he’s back in the lineup against the San Diego Padres.
Base hits have been hard to come by for Pence this season, as a career .281 hitter is off to a 9-for-41 start at the plate.
Pence struggled at the beginning of spring training, but changed his approach at the plate and produced the type of solid contact that gave manager Bruce Bochy confidence that Pence can still get the job done.
