OAKLAND – Suspense regarding the Giants’ final roster spots didn’t subside one bit Sunday upon the team’s return to the Bay Area. In fact, final decision-making took on new elements of uncertainty and angst with the acquisition of veteran catcher Erik Kratz in the morning hours.
The Giants broke camp in Arizona looking as if they’d at least settled the catching situation: Buster Posey the starter and Aramis Garcia the backup. But Kratz, acquired from Milwaukee for minor league infielder C.J. Hinojosa, not only blurs the catching picture somewhat but could have a domino effect elsewhere on the final 25-man squad.
