The San Francisco Giants named former Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler as their new manager, replacing Bruce Bochy after his retirement this year.
Kapler comes to San Francisco after two years of managing the Phillies, leading them to a 161-163 record during his tenure; he was fired after the 2019 season.
Kapler was the Dodgers' director of player development from 2014-17, during which time Farhan Zaidi, the Giants president of baseball operations, served as Los Angeles' general manager.
Kapler was in the running for weeks, reportedly going up against Kansas City Royals quality control coach Pedro Grifol and Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada for the position.
