The Giants on Tuesday announced their condolences to longtime broadcaster Hank Greenwald, who passed away on Monday from heart and kidney complications. He was 83.
Greenwald spent 16 seasons as the voice of the Giants on KNBR in San Francisco, from 1979-86 and 1987-96. A Bay Area broadcasting icon, Greenwald also did play-by-play for the University of San Francisco Dons basketball team and the Golden State Warriors of the NBA, as well as some part-time television work for the A's in 2004-05. He also did color commentary for the Hawaii Islanders of the Pacific Coast League and the football team at the University of Syracuse, where he was a 1957 graduate.
