SAN FRANCISCO — Major League Baseball’s decision to acknowledge its mistake on the video review of an obvious Giants home run Thursday isn’t going to help Brandon Crawford’s stats, but it earned the respect of manager Bruce Bochy.
Crawford was robbed of a home run in the ninth inning of the Giants 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday after replay umpires in New York determined that a fan had reached into the field of play to catch the shortstop’s blast to right, overturning the call on the field. But New York got the call wrong as video clearly showed that the ball was going to land on the green roof atop Willie Mays wall in right field, a home run according to the ground rules at AT&T Park.
