Giants' Madison Bumgarner battling flu in addition to Brewers

MILWAUKEE -- Madison Bumgarner took the mound for Monday's opening-day assignment at Miller Park despite experiencing flu symptoms over the weekend.

Bumgarner did not appear sharp in the first three innings. He issued a bases-loaded walk for just the second time in his career, and allowed two-strike home runs to the Brewers' Scooter Gennett and Jonathan Villar, yet the Giants led 4-3 in the third inning.Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Bumgarner was "pumped up" with medication and his condition had improved from Sunday, when he ran a slight temperature. Catcher Buster Posey had a similar ailment over the weekend, and didn't come to the park for Saturday's exhibition at Oakland.
