When Jeff Samardzija was cruising along last season as one of the American League’s most unproductive pitchers, it was suggested the White Sox’s suspect defense did him no favors.
When Samardzija joined the Giants in December, he gave no excuses for surrendering the most hits, earned runs and homers in the AL, nor did he point fingers.
But he did say he was looking forward to watching the Giants’ defense in action, especially at pitcher-friendly AT&T Park.
His latest opportunity was Sunday when he struck out nine batters and his teammates made several nice defensive plays, but the Giants struggled offensively in a 2-0 loss to the Rockies and split a four-game series.
