The final out of the World Series on Sunday night triggered the start of the Hot Stove season, with seven Giants and two A's among 139 major-leaguers who automatically became declared free agents Monday.
Many on that list are retiring or retired: The Giants' Jeremy Affeldt, Tim Hudson and Marco Scutaro, and the A's Barry Zito.
New free agents also include starter Mike Leake, whom the Giants hope to re-sign, Tim Lincecum and Ryan Vogelsong, plus outfielder Alejandro De Aza. Lincecum is recovering from hip surgery and has expressed a desire to return.
