SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Giants left-hander Javier Lopez was born.
Well, OK. On a galactic scale, San Juan, Puerto Rico is not so far away. And 1977 isn't such a long time ago, although "Star Wars" did premiere in theaters that year. But it was far enough in the past to make Lopez, 38, the oldest player in Giants camp this spring. He finds himself suddenly surrounded by pitchers who blow upper-90s cheese. And he feels absolutely no pressure to keep up with them. Why should he? Lopez is coming off his 13th major league season, and by measures both superficial and deep, it was the finest of his career.
