Giants’ hottest hitter gets a rare start, makes case for more playing time

SAN FRANCISCO — For much of the spring, Giants manager Bruce Bochy wasn’t sure if Pablo Sandoval would break camp with the club.

Two weeks into the regular season, Sandoval is the team’s hottest hitter and making the case to earn more playing time.

Sandoval is starting at third base and hitting sixth on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies as he’s filling in for Evan Longoria, who is resting after a long stretch without a day off.

“He’s getting a day and it’s time to give Pablo a start,” Bochy said. “He’s fine, it’s just a day off.
