Giants hold off Marlins in spirited contest

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants harnessed their emotion to deliver a solid performance Tuesday night, receiving early home runs from Buster Posey and Gorkys Hernandez that supported determined pitching in a 6-3 victory over the Marlins.

Posey clobbered a first-inning homer before being hit by a pitch from Marlins starter Dan Straily one inning later. It was a likely byproduct of the discontent that sprouted Monday, when Lewis Brinson lined a key ninth-inning hit off Giants closer Hunter Strickland. Giants starter Dereck Rodriguez hit Brinson in Tuesday's second inning, prompting plate umpire Andy Fletcher to warn both teams against further hostilities.
