SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Giants informed right-hander David Hernandez that he would not make the club, and then granted his release upon his request.
Hernandez, 31, pitched in six exhibition games and had a 4.76 ERA while allowing seven hits and five walks in 5 2/3 innings. He had signed a minor league contract one day after pitchers and catchers reported in February as the Giants sought more experience in their bullpen as well as additional competition to push right-handers like Derek Law and George Kontos.
But their right-handed incumbents all had solid springs, and among the non-roster invitees, Neil Ramirez has been much more impressive.
