SAN FRANCISCO — Pablo Sandoval hasn’t taken an at-bat in more than three weeks, but he still has an opportunity to break a San Francisco Giants’ single-season record.
The Giants announced Sunday that Sandoval has been activated from the 10-day injured list four days ahead of his scheduled Tommy John surgery. Sandoval can’t throw and can’t swing from the right side of the plate due to a torn UCL in his right elbow, but manager Bruce Bochy believes Sandoval can help the team in a pinch-hit capacity now that rosters have expanded to 40 players.
Sandoval has 18 pinch-hits this season and is currently tied for the single-season franchise record with Ken Oberkfell, who had 18 pinch-hits for the Giants in 1989.
