SAN DIEGO - Madison Bumgarner is as competitive as anyone else in the big leagues. He just shows it a little more than others.
Bumgarner started both the Giants’ first-half finale and second-half opener and wasn’t nearly as effective in the latter, giving up four runs and two homers in the Giants’ 4-1 loss to the Padres on Friday night.
It was an emotional beginning to the second half. Brandon Belt struck out in the ninth inning, slammed his bat on the plate, complained to umpire Mike Estabrook and got ejected for the first time in his career.
