SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The annual Willie Mays visit to Giants spring training left an impression on a couple of new Giants, who came away with a deeper understanding of what it means to be part of the organization.
Mays, 87, and another former Giant and Hall of Famer, pitcher Gaylord Perry, 80, spoke to the team before Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Royals at Scottsdale Stadium.
Outfielder Cameron Maybin, who signed with the Giants last month, said the message he took from Mays’ and Perry’s words had to do with embracing the Giants’ tradition.
“It’s fun to hear from those guys and how near and dear they hold this organization to their heart,” Maybin said.
