Giants force extras, but Marlins win in 11th

SAN FRANCISCO -- An untimely mistake Sunday by Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford helped create the opportunity for A.J. Ellis to clobber his first home run of the season and lift the Miami Marlins to a 10-8, 11-inning victory and three-game series sweep over the San Francisco Giants.

With the score tied, 7-7, Crawford, the National League's reigning Gold Glove Award-winning shortstop, overthrew first base after fielding J.T. Realmuto's grounder that opened the 11th inning. One out later, Ellis deposited an 0-2 pitch from George Kontos over the left-field wall. Two batters later, Giancarlo Stanton blasted his second homer of the game to make it a three-run cushion.
