Giants' first-base coach hit in face by foul ball

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Giants first-base coach Jose Alguacil was struck in the face by a foul tip while seated against the backstop during San Francisco's Cactus League exhibition against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday afternoon.

Alguacil, who appeared to remain conscious, was driven off the field on a stretcher. His condition was not immediately known.

Coaches and managers often perch themselves in folding chairs against the backstop in spring games. That's where Alguacil was, seated slightly to the first-base side behind home plate, when Hunter Dozier's checked-swing foul tip hit him.
