The Giants on Monday formally announced the hiring of Curt Young as pitching coach and Alonzo Powell as pitching coach. In the next 48 hours, ownership and management will engage in serious discussions on how to fill the roster these gentlemen will coach.
In a conference call with reporters, executive vice president Brian Sabean said that Johnny Cueto's decision Saturday not to opt out of his contract gives management a clearer picture of how much the Giants can spend as they try to rebound from the 2017 collapse.
With the free-agent signing period beginning Tuesday, Sabean, general manager Bobby Evans and manager Bruce Bochy need to solidify their free-agent and trade strategy knowing the Giants have to pay Cueto $21 million in each of the next four seasons.
