SAN FRANCISCO – Brian Sabean has presided over the Giants’ baseball operations department for more than two decades. He watched Barry Bonds rewrite the record book and Tim Lincecum bend the laws of physics. He watched some rosters overachieve beyond his wildest hopes and others splinter to the disabled list. He has felt the sting of an evaluation that backfired and the sting of champagne in the eyes.
He has never experienced anything like these last three months.
“To watch us literally hope to win one game in a series … I mean, I can’t remember a season, and I’ve been here since ’93, whether it’s home or road, that we’ve been swept so many times,” Sabean said.
