The 2018 amateur draft promises to be the Giants' most exciting since they got Buster Posey with the fifth pick in 2008, the one fringe benefit of being one of the worst teams in the majors.
That hardly makes the 2017 draft unimportant, since the Giants will need many building blocks. With the 19th overall pick Monday, they selected a high school outfielder, Heliot Ramos.
Ramos is 6-1, 188 pounds and still 17 years old, and thus not a player expected to help the Giants in the near future.
The right-handed hitter played center field for the Leadership Christian Academy and is said to have power potential, projects as a corner outfielder.
