Giants don't get the ending they sought in emotional regular-season finale

SAN FRANCISCO – A cancelled television program seldom gets to deliver a satisfying sendoff episode. And no, the Giants hadn’t intended to stop playing baseball with Sunday’s regular-season finale.

But a sellout crowd enjoyed one heck of a farewell show in a 7-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies at AT&T Park.

For eight innings, anyway. The Rockies scored seven runs in the ninth as George Kontos, Cody Hall and Yusmeiro Petit – the major league record-setting 11th pitcher used by one team in a nine-inning game – had trouble stemming the rally.

It wasn’t the ending the Giants wanted.
