MESA,, Ariz. — Giants starter Johnny Cueto remained in Monday night’s game against the A’s after he was hit on the head by Billy Burns comebacker on his first pitch.
Cueto, making his second spring start for the Giants, appeared to be hit on the right side of his forehead by the line drive. As he went to his knees, the ball flew high into the air and into center field, with Burns taking two bases.
Manager Bruce Bochy and the medical staff went to the mound. After a lengthy conversation with head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner, Cueto threw one warmup pitch and was allowed to continue.
