GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Giants learned it last spring and confirmed it this spring: Johnny Cueto does not need as much spring training as other pitchers.
He proved it again Monday when he pitched five innings and allowed one hit, a Peter Bourjos triple, in a 3-2 victory against the White Sox.
Cueto might have missed all that early pitcher fielding practice, but he momentarily saved a run when he jogged to the perfect spot to back up third and caught an overthrow on the triple. Bourjos scored on a sacrifice fly.
Cueto missed the first three weeks of camp to take care of his father, who now attends his son's starts here.
