Giants complete best trip in 103 years

SAN DIEGO -- So much has happened since 1913.

Two world wars. Space travel. Bartolo Colon hitting a home run. And in all that time, the Giants never came home undefeated after a trip of at least seven games. They scratched a 103-year itch Thursday. Jeff Samardzija kept up a run of dazzling pitching, even if he couldn't quite go the distance, as the Giants beat the San Diego Padres 3-1 at Petco Park to finish their most successful trip in a century. After taking four in Arizona, the Giants (25-18) swept the three-game series from the Padres. it's their first undefeated trip of at least seven games since June 30 to July 7, 1913, when Christy Mathewson was the winning pitcher three times in eight victories at Philadelphia's Baker Bowl and Brooklyn's Ebbets Field.
