SAN FRANCISCO–The voice of public address announcer Renel Brooks-Moon echoed throughout AT&T Park, just as it does before every home game.
“Now taking the field, your San Francisco Giants.”
It’s the traditional cue for all nine starters to run out from the dugout, but ahead of game 162, only one Giants player emerged. Hunter Pence sprinted to his place in right field and received a standing ovation from an adoring fan base, the one he developed a unique connection to during his six-plus years in San Francisco.
It was fine planning on the Giants’ part to honor Pence with his own moment before Sunday’s season-finale, too.
