Giants can thank Mother Nature for landing potential closer of the future

SAN FRANCISCO–As rain poured down in his hometown of Santiago in the Dominican Republic, Reyes Moronta realized wet weather would ruin his day.

Moronta, a stock 17-year-old teenager, was eagerly awaiting a tryout with the Chicago Cubs and desperate to show his talents off in front of professional scouts.

Mother Nature had other plans.

“It was raining so I couldn’t do anything,” Moronta said through Spanish language translator Erwin Higueros. “So Felix Peguero called me and he said the Giants needed a pitcher and asked me if I wanted to go and try out. At that time, I didn’t even know the Giants existed.
