SAN DIEGO — Manager Bruce Bochy would have loved to play five-time All-Star Buster Posey on Sunday and have him catch Tyler Beede, who made his second big-league start.
Posey is hitting .313 and has been especially tough on lefties, going 8-for-22. The Padres started lefty Joey Lucchesi.
Posey was shelved with right thumb soreness, which he felt Saturday while swinging. The Giants don’t consider it a serious matter, and Bochy said he expects Posey to return to the lineup Tuesday in Arizona, following Monday’s off day.
“He’ll be fine on Tuesday,” said Bochy, anticipating the swelling will subside.
