The consolation prize for missing the playoffs, which no team wants, is having more time to focus on restructuring the roster, and that process began for the Giants on Monday when team officials huddled to discuss 2016.
One early conclusion, according to general manager Bobby Evans, is that it’s not about keeping up with the first-place Dodgers and their top-heavy rotation of Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.
“We don’t want to keep up with them,” Evans said. “We want to pass them.”
That’ll take a lot of work.
