Giants’ Brandon Crawford to help honor Jim Davenport

MILWAUKEE — Brandon Crawford was one of the first Giants to Tweet his condolences after Jim Davenport died in February. Davenport, a Giants infielder, manager, coach and instructor for nearly 60 years, played a role in developing the many homegrown players on the current roster.

Several, including Crawford, will participate in a ceremony honoring Davenport before Thursday's home opener. The Giants also will pay tribute to Hall of Famer Monte Irvin, from their New York days, who died in January.

Crawford, speaking of Davenport, said, “He taught us all the little things that turn into big things, like bunting.
